Tips (10 things you must know)
- PSAT is offered once a year in October;
SAT is offered 7 times a year.
- If you are a sophomore, MCPS pays the
PSAT fee.
- The PSAT you take during the Junior year
is considered the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test
and counts toward any merit scholarship you might receive.
- All PSAT questions are actual questions
from the past SATs, but on the whole PSAT questions are less difficult
than SAT questions.
- Only about 10% of the questions on SAT
are level 5 (most difficult) and even if you skip these questions,
you can score 2100.
- The New SAT was offered for the first
time in March 2005 and the perfect score under the New SAT is
2400.
- Although University of Maryland, in the past,
admitted students with a SAT score of 1800 or so, you must have a
solid 1950 to get admitted there.
- SAT is also known as SAT I. In addition, SAT II (Subject Test) is offered in 22 subject areas.
- If you are considering an engineering or medical career, you
should take 2 to 3 SAT IIs - (1) Math IC or Math IIC; and (2)
Biology, Chemistry, or Physics.
- Each SAT II has about 50 questions and
you have 60 minutes to answer.
