FAQ
Q. Should my child take
SAT II even before he takes the
SAT?
A. Yes. The date for taking SAT
II should be close to when he finishes that course in the school,
which may be when he is a sophomore. SAT (also known as SAT I)
should be taken in junior or senior year.
Q. What is a good score?
A. 2100 or above.
Q. What is an impressive score?
A. 2250 or above.
Q.
Is 2400 a good goal?
A. 75% of students with a perfect score are
rejected by Harvard and Stanford. You can draw your own conclusion
from this.
Q. What is wrong with a perfect score?
A. Your child is missing out on a lot of
other things. Unless he or she can also show a strong performance
(i.e. leadership role) in extracurricular activities, a love for
learning and a commitment to help the community, mere
2400 will be
futile. The admissions office looks at many factors; SAT score is
not the only factor, but it certainly is an important factor.
Q.
How many kids get a perfect score?
A.
Before SAT was re-centered in 1995, only about twenty to thirty
students worldwide scored a perfect score. When 1600 was the
perfect score (until 2005) about a
thousand students scored a perfect 1600. Now with 2400 as the
perfect score, only a handful of students score a perfect 2400.
Q.
How many students take SAT each year?
A.
About 2 million.
Q.
Do Ivy League
and other prestigious schools use a secret formula in making admission
decisions?
A. Yes. The formula is based on GPA, rank in
the class, SAT score, SAT II scores, teacher's recommendations,
and other factors, such as class size.
Q. Will you share the secret formula with
us?
A. Send us a note. We might.
Q. How many times should my child take
SAT?
A. Two times in most cases, but may
take a third time also.
Q. What is a good amount of time to spend
on SAT preparation?
A. About 2 hours a day, 5 days a week
for 12 weeks. That is 120 hours.
Q. My child is taking AP Physics in High
School. He needs help. Do you also teach AP level courses?
A. We do not teach AP level courses at the
present time, but plan to add in the near future.
Q. We don't live in
the DC metro area. How can our child join your program?
A. By joining our remote learning
program. Please send an email to learn about it.
Q. Since when have you been coaching?
A. March, 2002.
Q. I have suggestions for your site.
A. Please send them to us. We would be
extremely thankful for any feedback you may have.
Q. I went through your Q&A. I still have
some questions.
A. We would be happy to answer your questions. Send them by email and expect an answer within
2 business days. It would be helpful if you would include your name,
child's name, grade and school and his recent PSAT/SAT score.
Q. Do you have jobs
available?
A. Yes. If you are a high school
teacher or a college student with solid credentials, please send
us your resume.
